SCHNECKSVILLE, PA., April 22, 2026 – Sustainable Energy Fund (SEF) today announced its evolution into the Regenerative Energy Initiative, marking a new chapter that expands its mission to advance energy systems that not only restore, but strengthen communities and ecosystems.

For decades, Sustainable Energy Fund has worked across Pennsylvania to assist energy users in overcoming educational, financial and regulatory barriers to a sustainable energy future. As the energy landscape continues to evolve, the organization is broadening its focus to embrace a regenerative approach—one that creates lasting, positive impact.

“For years, the goal was net zero. Regenerative energy goes further,” says John Costlow, President and CEO of Regenerative Energy Initiative (formerly known as Sustainable Energy Fund). “It’s about creating energy systems that actively renew, revitalize and regenerate environmental, economic and social systems—not just reduce harm.”

The transition to the Regenerative Energy Initiative reflects an expanded vision while maintaining the organization’s core commitment to Pennsylvania communities. Existing programs, partnerships, and services will continue without interruption, and stakeholders will continue working with the same trusted team.

The Regenerative Energy Initiative will focus on advancing projects and partnerships that:

  • Create positive environmental impact
  • Strengthen community resilience
  • Support long-term energy solutions that go beyond net-zero

“This evolution doesn’t change who we are or how we serve our communities,” said Kelly Sanders, VP of Outreach & Education. “Our programs, commercial funding opportunities and partnerships remain the same. What’s changing is the scale of our impact and the way we think about the role energy can play.”

As part of this transition, the organization will begin operating under the Regenerative Energy Initiative name across communications and branding. A new website experience will be launched in the coming months. In the interim, stakeholders can learn more about the transition at: https://thesef.org/new-chapter/
