SEF Participates in Several September Events

SEF recently attended conferences and events throughout Pennsylvania, each highlighting sustainable energy education.

SEF attended KEEA’s 2024 Conference: Policy in Action, held Sept. 17-18. This conference educated attendees on how recent and upcoming policies affect on-the-ground action in the Mid-Atlantic energy efficiency industry, from kitchen-table contractor conversations to state energy offices.

Additionally, SEF hosted an informative event held by the Mid-Atlantic Renewable Energy Association (MAREA). The event featured a demonstration of a biodigester and a discussion of the benefits of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).

Matt Steiman, 2024 recipient of the Epstein Award and Special Projects Manager of Dickinson College Farm, demonstrated the Anaerobic Biodigester, which handles a variety of organic waste sources, including college dining food waste, wood shavings, and now, in partnership with LLL Farm, cow manure. This system is a model for the smaller Pennsylvania farms formerly considered too small for current biodigesters.

Lawrence Eighmy, SEF board chair and Managing Principal & Founder of The Stone House Group, presented IRA and how its policy can benefit biodigesters like the one demonstrated by Steiman.

The Kutztown University College of Business hosted the 2024 Sustainability Summit titled “Power Our Future.” Several Kutztown business students and energy professionals attended, and SEF’s Kelly Sanders participated in a panel discussion about sustainability education.
