Sustainable energy projects benefit every member of the community, but are often too costly for businesses, non-profits, and other entities to finance independently. To make these projects possible, Sustainable Energy Fund offers Commercial Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Loans. Our creative approach to loan structuring and commitment to sustainability help the maximum number of borrowers receive the funds required to achieve greater energy efficiency.

Furthermore, the benefits of every loan extend far beyond the borrower with an added social impact. To support the non-profit organizations that work tirelessly within our Pennsylvania communities, 10% percent of all interest received from these loans will be placed in a Nonprofit Weatherization Fund. These funds are available to non-profit organizations to make their facilities more efficient and continue their essential work.

Loan Requirements and Benefits

The Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Loan is designed to help finance renewable energy and energy efficiency projects like building envelope improvements, HVAC, lighting systems, and more. Projects must meet one of the following criteria to receive funding:

The Mission of the Nonprofit Weatherization Fund

Our mission is to move society, as a whole, towards a sustainable energy future – starting locally. In 2018, we instituted a Non-Profit Energy Makeover Contest that audited over 40 Pennsylvania non-profits to highlight local efforts. A result of this contest was the realization that nearly all of these organizations’ facilities suffered weatherization issues in their buildings, negatively affecting the comfortability of staff and increasing electric bills.

As a partner in many sustainability projects, we know that whole-systems thinking is often a pathway to meaningful change, which is why the Nonprofit Weatherization Fund was created. The fund receives 10% of all interest paid on Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Loans to provide non-profit organizations with the money needed to complete their building weatherization projects, which will help improve their efficiency and support their financial wellbeing.
