SEF Opposes the PPL Rate Hike

FINAL Public Hearing — December 18

PPL is asking the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) to approve a $3.56 billion rate increase over 10 years — that’s $356 million every year paid by customers, while PPL’s own revenues would increase by more than 30%.

This increase would raise electric bills for households and businesses across 29 Pennsylvania counties, not just Wilkes-Barre.

SHOW UP. SPEAK OUT. PACK THE ROOM

At the same time, the people who will feel this increase most are seeing far smaller gains in income:

  • Social Security COLA: 2.8%
  • VA disability benefits: 2.8%
  • Average worker raises: 3.4–3.7%

These increases do not keep pace with rising utility costs. Many Pennsylvania families are already living with energy insecurity, unsure if they can afford to keep the lights on or heat their homes.

🚨 THIS IS THE FINAL OPPORTUNITY TO BE HEARD 🚨

The Public Utility Commission’s FINAL public hearing on PPL’s rate hike is:

Thursday, December 18, 2025 — 6:00 PM

Wilkes University, Henry Student Center
Jean and Paul Adams Commons (JPAC Room)
2nd Floor
84 West South Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18766

If the public is going to be heard, this is the last chance.

You can attend, offer public comment (even briefly), and bring others who are impacted.

As proposed, the average residential customer using 918 kWh per month would see their bill rise from $177.01 to $189.40: a 7% increase.

A final PUC decision is expected by July 1, 2026 but what happens on December 18 matters.

Why Your Voice Matters

This rate hike is unnecessary, harmful and unacceptable for our communities. PPL is asking customers, including seniors, veterans, working families, and people already struggling to pay their bills, to shoulder the cost while the company’s revenues soar.

Join us on December 18 and tell the PUC: Pennsylvania families can’t afford this.

NOTE: Individuals planning to testify on December 18 and wishing to refer to hearing exhibits should email them to Legal Assistant Pamela McNeal ([email protected]) by noon on Monday, December 15, 2025. The PUC Judge will distribute exhibits to all parties.
